Groundwater Level Monitoring

Stuart Wells can undertake a monitoring regime where groundwater levels are measured manually using a dipmeter. Or set up a datalogger (pressure transducer) system with direct download or remote monitoring, recording groundwater level at required frequency. Data is uploaded to a web-based site every two hours and levels presented in a level/time graph.

Stuart Wells can also design, drill, and install Vibrating Wire Piezometers (VWP), with data either uploaded directly or transmitted to a web site portal to allow remote monitoring.

Groundwater Sampling

As well as having the capability and engineers to purge and collect groundwater samples on-site. We stock groundwater sampling equipment for purchase or hire, such as:

  • Grundfos MP1 Submersible Borehole Pump: 110V x 48mm diameter so can be installed within a standard 50mm monitoring well. Relatively low flow (max 0.5 l/s). The pump can be quite easily damaged by suspended sediments, so we would not recommend use in any well that has not been effectively airlifted. We can provide the pump with a trolley containing flexible riser pipe, support, and power cable, with variable speed drive and 110V portable generator.

  • Grundfos SQ Pump - 240V x 74mm Submersible Borehole Pumps, with a maximum flow rate or 2.5 l/s and head up to 230m. Again, the pump can be quite easily damaged by suspended sediments, so we would not recommend use in any well that has not been effectively airlifted. We can provide a complete pump set with flexible riser pipe, support and power cable, RCD control box and 240V portable generator.

  • Whale 12 Volt Submersible Pumps Whale 12 Volt Submersible Pumps - Cheap and reliable for water sampling and purging within minimum 50mm diameter boreholes.

    MINI (P1) - Pumping Depth = 12m, Max flow rate 11.8 l/m

    SUPER (P2) - Pumping Depth = 18m, Max flow rate = 13.1 l/m

    MEGA (P3) - Pumping Depth = 27m, Maximum flow rate = 10.8 l/m

Field Parameter Water Quality Data

Stuart Wells has established relationships with major UK based Laboratory’s and conducts all Groundwater Sampling in accordance with BS ISO 5667-3:2018.

Field Parameter Water Quality Data

For quick and continuous monitoring of water quality field measurements such as pH, Redox Potential, EC, Dissolved Oxygen, Turbidity, and temperature. An Aqua Troll instrument or similar sensor instrument is used within an in-line low-flow cell arrangement with data logger on or after the wellhead. Water passing through the flow cell will either be diverted back down the well or into a storage container.

Flow Monitoring

Abstracted groundwater flow rate can be recorded and monitored using a flowmeter. Stuart Wells has an extensive stock of conventional radial or MAG flowmeters. All flowmeters are WRAS approved and calibrated. Remote monitoring of flow can be set, with regular uploads and access via a web-based portal.

Water Resource Monitoring

Pumping Tests monitoring of water resources such as rivers, streams and springs

When undertaking Pumping Tests monitoring of water resources such as rivers, streams and springs within proximity is required.

Stuart Wells have the capabilities to monitor flow and or levels at water resource location. Stilling wells can be installed and set up to remotely monitor all water levels.

Acoustic sensor instrumentation can be set up to enable continuous measurement of water velocity and level in streams, rivers, and canals. Stuart Wells offer long term telemetry monitoring of groundwater and surface water points.

Rainfall Monitoring

Independent Rain Gauges

Tipping bucket Rain Gauges connected to an electric datalogger can monitor and record long and short-term precipitation throughout pumping tests.

Independent Rain Gauges can be established and set-up in conjunction with long term telemetry monitoring to determine rainfall effects on groundwater and surface water resources.
