• Pumping Testing - Shoreham Flood Defence

  • Client: Shoreham Flood Defence
  • Location: Shoreham-by-the-Sea
  • Duration: None

Groundwater monitoring up to 24 months at 15 minute intervals

The scope of work was to drill two new pump wells and four monitoring wells with the ongoing monitoring of all wells associated to provide information for the proposed new flood wall. A water level logger was also installed to measure the full tidal range of the River Adur. Stuart Wells provided a report before construction and one post-construction of the flood wall. Each factual report included the water level data obtained, including pertinent trends, maximum, minimum, average and tidal lags.

Objective

The objectives of the pumping test investigation were to provide:

  • information on the permeability of the beach and tidal flat deposits
  • monitoring of the tidal groundwater level response
  • ground investigation information via the drilled wells logs
  • additional monitoring wells used to monitor performance of the proposed flood wall

Solution

Groundwater levels at the site are highly tidal, and pre-pumping monitoring (in both existing and new monitoring wells) was an essential part of the proposed testing programme. The drilling and pumping testing was carried out in accordance with an Environment Agency Groundwater Investigation Consent.
